SHALL THE TOWN OF ELIZABETHTOWN RESOLUTION DATED MAY 21, 2024 ENTITLED: RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN AMBULANCE DISTRICT IN THE TOWN OF ELIZABETHTOWN, BE APPROVED?
ABSTRACT OF PROPOSITION
Statement of Proposition:
The purpose and effect of this Resolution is to establish an Ambulance District pursuant to Town Law Article-12-a in the Town of Elizabethtown for the benefit of all the property and property owners in the proposed ambulance district which includes entire limits of the Town of Elizabethtown.
Impact:
The Town of Elizabethtown currently contracts with a private corporation, Elizabethtown-Elizabethtown Emergency Squad, Inc to provide ambulance service to the town. The Town pays the corporation on an annual basis. Establishing an ambulance district would establish a special district to oversee the quality of services provided by the service provider pursuant to its contract with the Town and would permit the town to assess a specific tax for the provision of ambulance services in the Town.
Effect:
A “no” vote would preserve the status quo and the Town of Elizabethtown would continue to contract directly with an ambulance company to provide ambulance services to the Town. Money to pay for the ambulance services would continue to be a part of the Town Budget.
A “yes” vote would establish a Special Ambulance District to oversee and manage the ambulance services and would permit the Town to assess a special tax to pay for the ambulance services.
The foregoing Abstract, together with a Proposition herewith submitted, is prepared by the Town Clerk of the Town of Elizabethtown, Essex County, New York with the advice of the Town Attorney of the Town of Elizabethtown, pursuant to Section 92 of the Town Law.
